Why Do I Need Retainers?
After completing your treatment with Orthodontics at Shellharbour we will give you either fixed wire retainers or removable retainers. This is the post care stage of your treatment that will ensure you keep your new smile for as long as possible. Without retainers your teeth can move back out of alignment over time.
Fixed lingual retainers are fitted for all patients getting orthodontic treatment to ensure the best results.

What Are Permanent Wire Retainers?
Permanent wire retainers (also known as fixed lingual retainers) are an alternative to removable retainers for maintaining your new smile long term. This style of retainer is fixed behind the teeth with a tooth-coloured material and does not have to be adjusted after it has been inserted. It doesn’t hurt and feels natural in your mouth.

Why Are Retainers Important After Treatment?
Retainers are important because they stop the teeth from moving back out of alignment after you have had treatment. Teeth will naturally move in your mouth over time, fixed or removable retainers stop the teeth from moving our of alignment. Removable retainers must be worn at night, while fixed retainers are applied after final treatment and cannot be removed.
